A World Filled With Light By Nightlady (c) 2000 She pulled the car into the familiar parking space and shut off the motor. Closing her eyes, she leaned her head against the top rim of the steering wheel gathering her courage. She'd spent the day thinking, reflecting on past events over which she'd had no control, and pondering how to take control of her future. After several minutes, she opened the door and got out, squaring her shoulders as she headed to what she knew would be the most important conversation of her life. Nick sat in near darkness in the lonely confines of the loft he'd called home since his arrival in Toronto over six years earlier. The state of the art multimedia center was dark and silent, but his mind was filled with the sound and imagery of many occasions during those years. Natalie as he'd first seen her in the morgue and again the next evening as she walked home from work. Natalie, in comfortable sweats, curled on the very couch he now occupied sniffling at a sad scene in a video. Natalie, laughing and smiling, her clear blue eyes shining like the finest sapphires and her glorious mass of auburn hair tumbling like living flame around her face. Natalie, who made his existence bearable and whom he loved more than he had ever dreamed it was possible to love. A look of pain crossed his face as he contemplated the fact that soon, it would become necessary for him to move on and in doing so he would forfeit ever seeing her again. The thought of facing even a day without her in his life was unendurable but how could he even consider the only alternative available? How could he, after all he'd said to her about abominable nature of his existence, even ask her to consider joining him in the darkness? He shook his head. How did he even know that she felt anything more than friendship and fascination toward him? "Just because she means everything to me doesn't mean that the feelings are mutual." He muttered sadly. His thoughts were broken by the sound of the lift and it took only a moment longer for him to identify the beloved sound of Natalie's heartbeat. He rose and headed for the lift's door. Nat swallowed nervously as the lift halted. Worry that she'd misread Nick's feelings toward her flooded her mind as she stepped toward the door. Saying a quick prayer that she was not about to make a complete fool of herself she reached for the door's handle, only to have the door start to open just before she grasped it. She looked up to see Nick's figure silhouetted in the doorway, a darker form against the darkness that seemed to permeate the loft. Managing a smile she stepped into the loft. "Hi, Nick. I hope you don't mind me just stopping by unannounced?" Nick shook his head. "You are always welcome, Nat." He said aloud while thinking 'You're always in my thoughts and dreams.' He leaned forward and lightly kissed her check as they walked back to the couch. "So, what did bring you here?" He asked, as Nat sat down. He could see that something was bothering her. "Nat?" He prompted. Nat sat looking down at her hands. "Twenty-five years ago today my entire life changed." She said quietly. "It was a Saturday, a beautiful winter day. The ground was covered with a blanket of freshly fallen snow that was so white it hurt to look at it. My mom and dad decided to take Richie and I out for a drive." Nick sat down beside Nat, listening intently. Like he, Nat was reticent about her past and had never before spoken about her parents. "We'd been driving for about twenty minutes when it happened." Nat said, her voice growing even softer as her eyes took on a far away look. "We were on a secondary road, one that hadn't been as well cleared as the main arteries. I remember there was a hill and a curve. Just as our car reached the crest, I heard my father curse and my mother shout 'Watch out!'" Nat began twisting her hands together. "I'd been looking out of the window at the snow covered landscape until then. I looked out the front windshield just in time to see a large truck coming toward us with the trailer portion of it jackknifing. I think I screamed, I'm not sure." Nick watched with his heart aching as a single tear slipped from Nat's eye. He reached out and covered her hands with his. "I don't remember the impact, but I remember coming to shortly afterward. I was still strapped in my seat belt and Richie was beside me, crying. I was confused the interior of the car was so bright. Then it hit me, the front half of the car just wasn't there. I undid my seat belt and somehow managed to stagger out of what was left of our car, calling for my parents. When I turned around, I saw what had happened to the front of the car." Nick could feel Nat trembling slightly. When she didn't say anything for a few moments, he asked, softly, "What did you see?" Nat closed her eyes. "The trailer had hit us in such a away as to sheer off the front part of the car. The rear, where Richie and I were sitting, had slid off the road and into a snowdrift. The front half had been caught under the trailer and dragged along the road for close to thirty meters. There was nothing recognizable left of it or of our parents." She opened her eyes and looked at Nick. "To this day I can still see the splashes of red on the whiteness of the snow." She suddenly couldn't bear to sit still. Standing she moved over to the fireplace. Nat took a deep breath. "I've been doing a lot of thinking lately," she began. "Since that day, I've lost everyone that I've loved. First mom and dad, then Richie and soon I'm going to lose you. I know that it's not going to be too much longer before you'll have to move on or risk being discovered." She looked up at Nick. "I also know that barring a miracle, I'm not likely to find a cure before then." Nat paused admitting that was difficult. "I don't think I can stand to lose you Nick. I can't stand to lose another person I love." She said, emotion causing her voice to tremble. Nat closed her eyes in frustration. She had planned to be calm and logical in this discussion and now, less than three minutes into it she was fighting to keep from bawling. When she felt Nick's arms wrap around her, she gave up the fight. Turning she buried her head against his chest and sobbed. Nick's heart leapt in his chest as he heard Nat's words. The knowledge that she did care for him, that she could love him, filled him with a joy that he'd not experienced in centuries. He could see her struggling with her emotions and crossed quickly to where she stood. Wordlessly, he embraced her wanting to feel her in his arms. When she turned and clung to him, sobbing he tightened his embrace and leaned his cheek against her hair. "Shh, Nat. Please don't cry." He murmured. "I'm sorry," Nat said. "I didn't mean to make a fool of myself by bawling like a baby." Nick tilted her chin up so that he could look into her eyes. "You haven't and you have nothing to be sorry about." He lightly brushed the hair away from her face. "I wish that I could take away all the hurt you've known, but I can't. I can't change the past." He saw a look of profound sadness wash over her face as she dropped her gaze from his. "What I can do, is try to make sure that you never know that sort of pain again." Nat caught her breath and felt her heart leap in her chest. "What are you saying, Nick?" She searched his face trying to discover if he meant what she prayed he did. "Nat, before you came here tonight I was sitting here feeling pretty sorry for myself." Nick told her looking deep into her eyes. "You're right, the time I have left to be Nick Knight, homicide detective is getting shorter. In another year at the most I'm going to have to move on. This time is different from all the other times I've had to do that. This time I can't bear the thought of leaving the person I love more than I ever dreamt it was possible to love. I can't bear the thought of leaving you." Nat felt tears again well up in her eyes, but these were tears of joy. "Nat, I want you to be with me, forever, but how can I ask you to step into my world of eternal darkness?" Nick asked. "If we are together, it won't be dark for me." Nat said. "It's not the sun that makes my world bright, it's being with you. I came here to try and convince you to at least consider bringing me across." She confessed. "Nat, in order for this to work, it would be best if we both moved away from Toronto." Nick said studying her face to see her reaction. "You will need time to learn to control the blood thirst, for a while you won't be able to safely interact with mortals." "Yes, I understand that. Too much temptation for me resulting in danger for them." Nat said before adding, "I hoped that you would say yes, so I called and arranged to take my accumulated leave time before I came over here. I told Grace that I was going out of town and she's taking care of Sydney for me." She hesitated as she remembered what had happened to her brother and shuddered slightly. "Nick, what if I'm like Richie was?" She asked, needing to know the answer. "I honestly don't think that you will be like that. Remember Richard didn't even know that vampires existed until he suddenly found that he'd been made one. He wasn't prepared for the change and," Nick hoped that his next words wouldn't cause Nat to hate him, "I have to take a large part of the blame. I should have never left him alone." He raised Nat's hand to his lips and softly kissed it. "I have no intention of repeating that mistake with you." He told her. Nat laid her hand against Nick's cheek. "I've never held you to blame for what happened, Nick. I was the one that all but forced you to bring Richie across, never considering what the consequences might be even though you tried to tell me." She gave Nick a soft smile. "I know, as well as I can without having experienced it, what it is I'm asking this time. I want to be with you, forever." Nick leaned forward and captured her lips with his. He heard Nat make a small sound of pleasure as she leaned into his embrace, returning the kiss with a passion that matched his own. Nick felt his manhood harden as the knowledge that the sweet nectar he'd craved so long would soon be his and that he'd at last know the joy of expressing his love for Nat totally and fully. Reluctantly he broke the kiss and led Nat to the couch. "If we're going to do this, I need to prepare." He told her. "I need to have some nourishment for you delivered. You must have human blood, at least for a while, and I don't have any here." As much as he ached to take her now, he wanted to allow her the choice of when they would finally consummate their love. "How long will that take to arrange?" Nat asked. "I can call The Raven and arrange to have the supplies delivered now." Nick responded. "And I'll need to call the precinct and take at least the next week off. Luckily, it's been a slow crime month, so that shouldn't be a difficulty." He watched Nat closely to see her reaction. "Then it's possible to do this tonight?" Nat asked. When Nick nodded yes, she took his hand and squeezed it. "I've already waited almost six years, I don't want to have to wait a minute longer than I have to." She said. "Let me make a couple of phone calls." Nick said, kissing her softly before he reached for the phone. Nat nodded her understanding. She could feel her heart beating swiftly in her chest. She didn't have any doubts about what would soon transpire; rather she felt the sort of joyous anticipation that a child does the night before a planned trip to an amusement park. At last she was going to be able to be completely with the man she loved and deep in her soul she knew that this was right, that this was what was meant to be. She sat close to Nick and listened as he phoned first to The Raven and then the precinct. In less than fifteen minutes everything was arranged. It was only another few minutes until a young vampire arrived with two large crates, each containing a dozen bottles of The Raven's Reserved Stock. During the wait Nick had disappeared upstairs. When he returned Nat noticed that he looked rather pleased with himself. Now, with all the preparations made, Nick held out his hand to Nat. Taking it she stood and followed him to the stairs. She laughed happily as he lifted her in his arms and carried her up the staircase and into his bedroom. In the bedroom, Nat gave a small gasp of surprised pleasure. The room was ablaze with dozens of candles filling it with a soft, warm light. "Oh Nick, this is beautiful!" Nat exclaimed. "I want this to be very special for you. I want you to be relaxed and comfortable with everything that happens." Nick said, smiling as he sat her on her feet. "I want you to know how much I love you." Desire was raging through him, but Nick was determined to make sure of Nat's happiness before his own. When, in response to his words, Nat turned to face him and raised her lips to his Nick felt as if is entire being was ablaze with pleasure. They embraced each hungrily seeking the fulfillment they'd dreamed of, and denied themselves, for so long. As their tongues engaged in a sensual duel their hands at last eagerly explored the other's body. Nat moaned in bliss as Nick's hands slipped beneath the sweater that she was wearing to fondle her breasts. As he gently kneaded and caressed her, she felt her body reacting to his touch and her need to feel his flesh against hers increased. Her hands were busy, too, as she ran her fingers over the smooth firmness of the muscles in Nick's back and chest. Undoing the buttons of his shirt, she pushed it off his shoulders. The candlelight flickering over his pale flesh imparted a soft golden glow to it. She wanted to touch him everywhere and allowed her hands to drift down to the waistband of his jeans. Boldly, she undid his belt and the fastenings on the jeans before sliding her hand down inside them. Nick's head was filled with the unique scent that was Nat. The feel of her soft curves beneath his hands combined with the sensations of her hands on him causing his manhood to harden to an almost painful degree. He had to feel all of her, to drink in the beauty of her body with his eyes before he drank the alluring nectar of her blood. He ached to sheath his steel hard shaft deep within her moist folds as he sank his fangs into the tender flesh of her throat. With a smooth swift motion, he broke the kiss and removed the sweater Nat had on to reveal the full mounds of her breasts, covered only by the thin fabric of her bra, to him. In an instant, Nick removed the bra freeing the enticing mounds and hungrily sought one with his mouth. Nat inhaled deeply as Nick's lips closed around her already erect nipple. The play of his tongue on that sensitive area as he first licked then suckled it sent waves of ecstasy to her womb. She felt herself become moist as unrestrained carnality caused her to press against Nick even as her hand found his manhood. Nick pressed his hips forward, as Nat began to stroke him. He'd nearly forgotten how delightful this sort of pleasure was. He closed his eyes as he felt his fangs drop. Opening his eyes he found Nat gazing at him, her eyes filled only with love. The lack of horror or distaste in her expression only increased his love for her. He nuzzled her neck, kissing her gently, the nearness of her blood calling to him. At the same time, he undid the waistband of her slacks and pushed both them and the lacy underpants beneath them, over her hips. That done, he worked off his shoes and pushed his own slacks and underwear off, stepping out of them to stand nude, except for his socks, before her. Nat took a moment to gaze appreciatively at Nick's physique. She'd always known that he was, in the vernacular, 'buff' but actually seeing him all but took her breath away. She slipped off her shoes and then also stepped out of her now discarded slacks. She blushed slightly under the intensity of Nick's gaze. "Nat, you are even more beautiful than I dreamed." Nick said, at last. He stroked her cheek, then lifted her, and carried her over to the bed. Placing her gently on it, he lay beside her. Nat moved into the circle of Nick's arms, snuggle against him as they slowly explored one another's bodies. As Nick skillfully caressed, kissed, and stroked her, Nat felt her passion flame. Soon she was moaning with delight at the feelings that washed over her. Every inch of her body seemed to tingle with need and she couldn't seem to get enough of him. Running her hands through the silky softness of his hair she pressed against him. The hardness of his erection against her belly made her want to feel it deep inside her. Nick slowly licked and kissed his way down Nat's body. His world had narrowed to the warm, intoxication woman in his arms. Her cries of pleasure spurred him on as he delighted in being the cause of her enjoyment. When he reached the moist slit between her legs that concealed the seat of her pleasure, he paused to inhale deeply of the alluring scent of her arousal. Only then did he gently part the folds and run his tongue against the small firm nub within. Nick smiled as he felt Nat's fingers in his hair, as she encouraged his activity. Slowly, at first, he alternately licked and sucked ever so gradually increasing both the speed and the intensity of these actions. He could feel the growing tension of Nat's muscles as she rose toward her orgasm. At last she cried out his name and Nick felt her entire body stiffen as she crested the peak of pleasure. Nat knew, as she soared on the throes of her climax, that even if joining Nick in his darkness did mean her soul would be condemned, this moment alone made it worth it. As Nick softly kissed her face, she murmured, "Please, Nick I want to feel you in me." Nick smiled, "Your wish, my love, is my command." He slipped between her legs and, with her guiding him, sheathed his manhood within her warm flesh. This action brought a sigh of pure pleasure from Nat and a moan of intense gratification from Nick. He stayed motionless for a moment, just savoring the feel of Nat. He'd dreamt of this for so long that he wanted to prolong the experience as much as possible. Finally he began to move within her as his body called for its own release. As Nick climbed toward climax he could feel his beast clamoring for satisfaction, too. He also sensed that Nat, still hypersensitive from her release, was again moving toward an orgasm. He paced his movements to insure that they would crest together. Only when Nat's body began to tremble as she neared her climax did Nick at last give in to his beast's demand. As he lowered his mouth to her creamy throat, Nick felt Nat's hand on his head, urging him to partake of the bounty of her sweet blood. A small growl escaped him as he sank his fangs deep into the rich fountain of her essence. Immediately Nick felt his body reach fulfillment. As his seed pumped into her, Nat's emotions filled his mind. Her nonjudgmental love for him blazed like a beacon in his darkness. Her willingness to join him, for eternity, brought warmth to his soul that he'd never dared to dream of experiencing. As he drank deeply, he sent his love, his devotion, and his desire for her to Nat through the blood link. As he heard her heart start to slow, he felt no fear from her, only love and serenity. As he felt her lose consciousness, he at last ceased drinking. Shifting, he pulled her into his arms, cradling her against his chest. Opening a vein in his wrist, he placed the wound to her lips. "Drink, my dearest love. Drink and return to me forever." He whispered to her. He let out a breath of relief as he felt the first tentative pull of Nat's mouth against his wrist. She would return! As she drank deeper of his blood, Nick pushed into the blood link, a smile on his face as he felt Nat's joy and wonder at the vividness of their new mental oneness. The power of her second orgasm was still burning through her when Nat felt the sharp prick of Nick's fangs. The sudden unity she felt with him as he drank of her essence both awed and comforted her. She'd never know such intimacy with another person and the total love and caring she was receiving from Nick made her feel a wholeness she'd not realize was missing until that moment. Nat had felt no fear even though she'd sensed her life flowing out of her. Her world first darkened and then she suddenly found herself standing near a bright light. She knew that if she moved toward the light she'd be with her parents and Richie, but that Nick would be lost to her forever. As much as she'd loved and cared for them, her love for Nick was stronger. She sensed him calling her back to him and willingly turned from the light to his love. As she slowly awakened to her new existence, Nick's love seemed to wrap her in a cocoon of contentment. She opened her eyes to the sight of Nick's loving gaze. As she reached her arms out to him, she knew that she'd been right. So long as she was with Nick, she walked in a world filled with light. The end RETURN TO ADULT STORY INDEX RETURN TO MAIN PAGE
